Design Provocation
We are living in tumultuous times. From Brexit and Trump, to national issues around the environment, housing and homelessness, its seems as if the fabric of society is beginning to fray. What can we do in the face of such changes, and what is our role, our duty, as designers in society? These are questions you’ll look to answer through taking on a local issue in this experimental, exploratory and multi-faceted design project.

The Project
Using narrative, research, communication and visual language develop an experimental and creative response to your selected issue. For the purposes of this pathway, graphic design, this response will centre on the creation of a typeface, poster, and small publication which captures the research journey and story behind the typeface. Taking your specific issue as the theme you will also look to propose strategies, provocations, and solutions to your selected problem. Our kaupapa (or purpose) is to develop a research project that addresses the research provocation
Design for awareness; How can I potentially influence a change in Auckland surrounding stereotypes and economic inequality?
Economic Diversity Publication
Economic Diversity and inequality is a problem for all Aucklanders. While some people may not be aware that it is happening. Multiple areas show this increase in economic diversity and inequality throughout the Auckland region.

We can identify this diversity by seeing the access to the limited/excessive resources some may have. Stereotypes were created for a reason. It is apparent in each community what they are, yet no one really notices or considers what they mean.
